Tower Audio Melbourne upgraded a classic Rover Coupé with a Pioneer fold-out touchscreen, reverse camera and new speakers.
The installation adds modern functionality to the vehicle’s traditional wood-trimmed dashboard without leaving a touchscreen permanently exposed.

Quick Summary
Vehicle: Classic Rover Coupé
Upgrade: Car audio, reverse camera and speaker upgrade
Equipment: Pioneer fold-out touchscreen head unit, reverse camera and upgraded speakers
Outcome: Modern touchscreen controls, rear-view camera display with parking guidelines and updated speakers within the classic Rover interior.
Pioneer Fold-Out Touchscreen Installation
The Rover Coupé’s traditional dashboard features wood trim, central ventilation controls and limited space for a modern multimedia display.
A Pioneer fold-out touchscreen head unit provided a practical solution. The unit sits beneath the dashboard ventilation area, with a retractable display that extends for touchscreen operation and folds away when not required.
Unlike a permanently mounted large touchscreen, this design takes up less visible dashboard space when retracted.
One important consideration with fold-out screens is clearance. The display requires space to extend and may cover part of the dashboard when open. The stereo’s mounting position and surrounding controls therefore need careful consideration.
The photographs below show the Pioneer touchscreen in its extended and retracted positions within the Rover’s original-style dashboard.

Reverse Camera Integrated with the Pioneer Touchscreen
Tower Audio also installed a reverse camera connected to the Pioneer touchscreen, allowing the driver to view the area behind the Rover when reversing.
The installation photograph shows the camera feed with coloured parking guidelines displayed directly on the extended screen.
For a classic Rover Coupé with long rear bodywork, this extra view can help when parking or manoeuvring in tight spaces.
Using the Pioneer display for both audio controls and the reverse camera also eliminates the need for a separate dashboard monitor.

Speaker Upgrade in the Classic Rover Coupé
The installation also included a speaker upgrade to complement the Pioneer head unit.
The photograph shows a round speaker fitted within the Rover’s cream door panel, surrounded by its traditional interior fittings.
Speaker upgrades in classic vehicles require consideration of available mounting space, door trim and interior appearance. Choosing the right equipment helps integrate updated audio components without unnecessarily changing the cabin’s character.
